Greetings from Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Many thanks to all of you for the thoughtful, loving holiday wishes yesterday. Under strict orders from my dad, we were told to bring a big suitcase of goodies to the hospital yesterday. With the loving support of Andy, Mike, Adam, Anna, and Kelly, we celebrated Christmas at the hospital. Dad lit up in their company, despite his exhaustion from the transport and recovery of the previous day.
Today was the first “official” day of my dad’s rehabilitation – they load up his schedule with occupational, speech, and physical therapy, with additional visits from the psychologist and his physician. He’s on a lot of pain killers, and goes through periods where he is utterly depleted and other times he is quite lucid and lighthearted. In his PT, he worked on getting up and down from the wheelchair, and compensating for his weakened left side – a result of the aggressive approach to removing his tumors.
Although he’s kept pretty busy at rehab, there’s downtime in the morning and evening for visitors and reading. Anyone local interested in visiting, I know he’d love to see you! He will be there for 4-6 weeks.
With love and gratitude.
